The XXIth can be seen as the century of communication. Indeed, if the XIXth century was the century of production and the XXth the century of consumption, the period we live in is characterized by a growing development of communication in our everyday life. The new technologies – among which Internet has a prominent place – developed and made easier the natural human need of communication. This development can also be seen in the professional area: one can easily and quickly write an email to a colleague, a superior or even to his whole company in one click.
With the new software and hardware, workers are more informed than their predecessors. They know more about their rights, their other colleagues and their company. Moreover, they have access to more information concerning their own company (Annual reports potential future job cuts etc.).
Nonetheless, having access to a lot of information doesn’t mean being well informed. The mere data are of no use if not accompanied by explanations. That’s why communication must be added to information. It’s a pedagogical work and the purpose is to give useful information.
Therefore, communication is a new issue company are facing. It can’t be seen as a mere strategy to manipulate workers. It must be seen as an efficient tool that strengthens the unity between workers and their commitment to the company’s project. After having defined the “why”, it’s important to explain the “how”. Various ways are possible and the purpose of the next articles is to highlight some of them.
