Evaluating your weaknesses. It is all too often that we are found too close to a situation and are unable to see the flaws in our own planning. It is even more often that we are unable to see the personal flaws in ourselves that bring down our efficiency and effectiveness as an individual.

This week’s tip will introduce the idea of emotional intelligence and will provide you with a means of improving your own personal EI (emotional intelligence). EI is described as “the ability to identify, use, and manage emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, overcome challenges, and defuse conflict”.

EI encompasses some of the most important aspects of both one’s personal and professional life and once obtained can lead to an extremely successful life.  The first step of elevating your EI starts with evaluating your emotions. You must make a conscience effort to account for your personal emotions each day and actively seek the triggers of each one. Once you have specified each emotion your next step is to form a proper response.

This may sound easy, but years of unregulated responses are extremely hard to manipulate. Most psychologist recommend writing each emotion down and coming back to it later to ponder upon what specifically caused each feeling. This will take time and patients, but with perseverance you can start a journey to a higher EI and a healthier life.
