We often think of communication as purely verbal, in which case leads to an individual talking TOO MUCH! This is a major fallacy in the world of communication. The greatest communicator is also the greatest listener. Try and think of communication as a tennis game with two people trading the right to serve and receive (speak and listen). Greet your time of listening with your undivided attention. To give your undivided attention, you must completely focus on what the opposing speaker is saying rather than what you’re planning to say next. Giving the other speaker this level of attentiveness shows that you value their point of view and will in turn make them more receptive to your ideas. Furthermore, improper listening can lead to many details being lost throughout a conversation. This is extremely inefficient and can cost you a lot of wasted time. Try and practice the art of listening on your next conversation and discover the benefits of talking less!
